An Air Algerie flight, carrying 110 passengers and 6 crew members, from Burkina Faso reportedly disappeared from radar 50 minutes into its flight early Thursday morning.
Not much is currently known about the whereabouts of Flight AH5017 which, according to the official Algerian News Agency, disappeared from radars 50 minutes into its flight from Burkina Faso capital Ouagadougou to Algerian capital city Algiers. The flight path of the plane was not immediately clear but the route from Ouagadougou to Algiers is an almost complete straight line, flying up from Burkina Faso, through Mali and into Algeria.
Concerns have been raised over the flight’s disappearance because there has been significant fighting in Northern Mali for the past few months and tensions are still high across the world over the MH17 incident a few days prior.
“In keeping with procedures, Air Algerie has launched its emergency plan,” the country’s official news agency quoted the airline as saying.
