A video supposedly released by the Islamic State has surfaced which purports to show the beheading of a second American journalist, Steven Sotloff.
A new video has emerged reportedly showing the beheading of Steven Sotloff, the second US journalist who was captured by the Islamic State. The White House has announced that it is still checking the reports but Mr Sotloff’s family were informed. The footage surfaces less than a month after the beheading of James Foley, a video which sparked global outrage at the actions of the militant group, formerly known under the moniker ISIS.
Sotloff, 31, disappeared in Syria in 2013 and was reportedly in the possession of the Islamic State, according to the statement read out prior to the execution of fellow journalist Foley. The militant in the new video threatened to kill a British hostage if international action continued against the group’s self-declared Islamic caliphate.
