Government officials in Mali have confirmed that a two-year-old girl has tested positive for Ebola, the African country’s first case of the disease.
Malian officials have confirmed the first case of the deadly Ebola virus within the country. A two-year-old girl tested positive for the disease, after returning from a recent trip to Guinea – where the current outbreak originated from back in February.
The announcement comes as a major blow to efforts to contain the disease in West Africa. Earlier in the week, the countries of Nigeria and Senegal were officially declared free of Ebola by the WHO – causing hope that the disease was being successfully kept in West Africa.
