Philippines troops have battled with violent Abu Sayyaf militants on Friday, leaving fourteen dead – five soldiers and nine extremists.
Philippines troops have fought an intense gunfight with Abu Sayyaf militants in the mountainous Talipao town, in the Sulu province. The battle, according to a military commander, has left five soldiers and nine extremists dead. At least 26 other soldiers and more than 30 Abu Sayyaf gunmen were also injured in the clashes, according to army Col. Allan Arrojado.
Abu Sayyaf is an extremist militant group in the Philippines. The group has been blamed for the kidnappings of both several foreigners and Filipinos in the restive southern region of the country.
