Local media has reported the attack on Brussels’ Zaventem airport was the result of a suicide bombing.
The Belgium broadcaster VRT says the Brussels airport attack was a suicide attack. Belgian authorities are yet to confirm the claims.
Brussels is in lockdown, following the explosions at Zaventem airport and Maelbeek metro station.
The metro stations and the airport have been closed. And now the city’s museums are also reported to have been shut.
The blasts come four days after the capture in Brussels of Salah Abdeslam, the main suspect in the jihadist attacks in Paris on 13 November 2015.
Belgium has now raised its terror threat to its highest level. That takes the level for the entire country up from level three to four, the maximum.
