Local police chief reports that “many lives were lost” in the incident.
Police would not confirm the number of dead immediately, but said “multiple people” had died in the shooting at the Pulse club. It was added that 42 people had been taken to hospital.
Orlando Police also said in a statement, via social media, that the shooter inside the Pulse Club, located in the heart of the city, is now dead.
A bomb squad and hazardous material team are at the scene, and a controlled explosion was carried out. The local sheriff has described the shooting as a “domestic terror incident”.
