The gunman behind the fatal shooting at an Orlando nightclub, which killed 20 people and injured a further 42, has been identified by police as Omar Mateen.

It is believed Omar Mateen, a US citizen, was not on a terrorism watch list, though he was currently being investigated for a previous unrelated criminal act.
US officials have confirmed that the suspected attacker was Omar Mateen, a US citizen from Florida.
The FBI has said that there were some “suggestions” that the gunman, Mateen, had “leanings towards” radical Islamist ideology.
Local police have referred to the situation as a “domestic terror incident”.
