The attack has been referred to as an act of terrorism by police, while the FBI has claimed that there were suggestions of radical Islamist links with gunman, Omar Mateen.
Orlando police chief John Mina has described the attack as a “tragedy not just for our city, but for the entire nation”.
He added that officials would soon start identifying the victims and notifying next of kin.
