Attending to a reported stabbing in the Scarborough area, police found two people dead and one person wounded, who later died.
One person is in custody and a crossbow was found in the vicinity of the victims, a police spokeswoman said.
All the victims suffered injuries inflicted by a crossbow, police later said.
Constable Jennifer Sidhu, a Toronto police spokeswoman, told the BBC that police received reports of a stabbing incident and arrived just before 13:00 EST (18:00 GMT) to find the three injured at the scene.
Sidhu confirmed that a fourth person at the scene had been taken into custody.
