Police in Finland have said that they believe the stabbing of several people in the southwestern city of Turku, which left two people dead, was a ‘terror attack’.
According to police, the attacker, who was shot in the leg by police and taken into custody, was an 18-year-old Moroccan.
Both people stabbed to death in the attack were Finnish. A further eight people were injured, including two Swedes and an Italian.
Police said in a statement: “The act had been investigated as murder, but during the night we received additional information which indicates that the criminal offences are now terrorist killings.”
Officers carried out a number of raids overnight.
