Around 6,500 migrants have reportedly been rescued, off the coast of Libya, following a major operation by the Italian coastguard.
The bodies of at least 133 migrants have washed up on the Libyan coast, at the western city of Zuwara, in recent days, the Red Crescent has said.

Libyan coast guard officials have detained as many as 600 illegal African migrants, including pregnant women and 18 children, who had tried to sail to Europe.
