Gunshots and explosions have been reported in the Turkish capital, Ankara, with reports suggesting a helicopter has fired on the Presidential Palace, during an ongoing military coup.
According to a statement from the coup soldiers, Turkey is to be run from this point on by a “peace council”, which will ensure the safety of the Turkish population.
The Turkish military have declared martial law and imposed a curfew, according to a statement by state-run broadcaster TRT.
